Funk Awards 2015 is here!
Here are the WINNERS:
We have two categories, SOFT and BASS, where three winners in each category will be chosen. We hope you’ll let us know what you think. No matter what, know this: all 20 artists that we nominated here are amazing, and we love every one of them.
DISCLAIMER: The categories of SOFT and BASS are only guiding. We know that some artists have made tracks that belongs in both categories. Hope you can bear with us. Cheers.
Tuxedo was chosen because they are ALL about the funk. They are not redefining the genre, or taking in through all kinds of different subgenres. They are the modern take on the classics from the 70s. We absolutely love it!
The New Jersey producer Aaron really impressed us in 2015. So many releases and it’s safe to say that they are all really awesome. The Disco and Future Funk is so strong, and we’re sure he’s happy about 2015 with all the hype, reddit posts and collabs that has gotten him all over the place.
We’ve loved this Finnish guy ever since we heard his Gracias remix (see below), and ever since it has been quality release after quality release. We hope he’ll try an experiment with the funk some more in 2016, perhaps some slower releases.
One of the best albums we’ve ever heard, and a modern take on funk that is just too f*cking good. Not only is he a great producer, he’s a great guy and he supports the idea of free music with donation options. When we saw him live, we knew this was on of our favorite artists of all time.
We love what Besnine does. 2015 has been huge for the Frenchman, with stunning releases and a new EP that marked the start of a promising career. We hope to see him live one day, because one thing is certain: he’s one of the best and most talented artists we know.
The French duo has impressed us ever since their first album in 2014; the really funk is alive in whatever they do, and the freaks are so damn good at it. Hot releases through the year climaxed in a new EP that includes 2-3 of the best tracks of 2015. That has to be rewarded.
Who knew that we wouldn’t take Gramatik?
Haha.. Oh well, so many great artists were “left behind”, but rest assured – we love every one of them!
